Readers may also be interested to know that the recently formed "401 Citizens Action Committee" was NOT formed by concerned county citizens. It was formed by the EDC and reports directly to the EDC.

The Franklin County Committee of 100 books are kept at the EDC offices, the group's mail goes to the EDC office, and the group's phone number is the same as that of the Franklin County EDC

Something to think about...

Franklin County's Boards and Commissions are all staffed through appointment by the county commissioners. Most of the county's Boards & Commissions are staffed by "regular" (non-special-interest - i.e. developers, realtors, builders, etc) residents and consist of between 5 and 7 members.

  1. Why does the Planning Board have 14 members?
  2. Why does the EDC have 7 members on the Commission PLUS another 15 members on the EDC Board not including the 3-person commission staff for a total of 25 people overseeing department operations and decisions?
  3. Why does the EDC and EDC Board have 7 county employees on the Commission & Board when other departments have, at most one or two?
  4. Why are 11 of the EDC & EDC Board's 22 non-staff members (plus Director Ronnie Goswick) also Co100 members?
  5. Why does the 85-member non-profit Co100 have any say or input at all into EDC operations or decision-making other than as regular, individual citizens?
  6. Why are EDC meetings held at 8am on weekdays when every other county committee, commission, or board that is likely to draw public interest meets at times which are more accessible to the general public?
  7. Why aren't EDC minutes and agendas posted on their website for all to see?
  8. Why are there no "regular" (non-government-, development-, or real-estate-related) county residents on the EDC or EDC Board?
